This facilitator’s manual is a sharing of many original facilitation tools that Robina has created and built on, when working with organisations, groups and communities globally. They are developed simultaneously for the ‘underdeveloped’ and ‘overdeveloped’ world, so should be applicable and adaptable to a diversity of cultures.

As well as her natural way of interactive outcomes-based education and facilitation, Robina draws from her training in PRA (Participatory Rural/Rapid Appraisal) which she studied at Fambidzani Permaculture Institute in Harare, Zimbabwe. Although none of the tools in this manual are classically PRA tools, they embody the philosophy of equivalence, transparency and community synergy. They utilise all learning modalities (primarily visual, auditory, kinesthetic), but are most suited to kinesthetic (learning by doing) learners, who are commonly not catered for in formal learning situations.

Each chapter contains written and/or diagrammatic examples of the processes being described, and photographs of the work in action. It also contains templates which are for copying, drawing up or laying out to a scale which the whole group can walk around and engage with. The template is also intended to be scaled up to use for recording emerging information.

This manual contains a range of tools that enable any group of people who have common intent to shape a collective culture based on the principles of sustainability.
